EPFO interest credit for FY 2025-26 began landing from July 15, 2026, at 8.25% — here’s how to check if your PF passbook is updated.
The Numbers Behind This Year’s EPFO Interest Credit
- Interest rate: 8.25% for FY 2025-26 — unchanged from the previous year
- Total amount being credited: approximately ₹1.44 lakh crore
- Members affected: around 34 crore (340 million) EPF subscribers nationwide
- Processing system: run through EPFO’s newer Centralized IT Enabled Services (CITES) platform, which consolidates member data into a single national database rather than separate local-office databases
Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed the credit would auto-process and then be verified by field authorities before reflecting in member balances, with most accounts expected to show the update by July 15.
How to Check: EPFO Member Passbook Portal
- Go to the EPFO Member Passbook portal at epfindia.gov.in
- Navigate to For Employees → Member Passbook
- Log in with your UAN (Universal Account Number), password, and the captcha code
- Complete OTP verification using your Aadhaar-linked mobile number, if prompted
- Select the relevant PF account if you have more than one
- Click View and select either the full Passbook or the quicker Passbook Lite summary
- Look for a distinct interest entry for FY 2025-26 — if it’s there, your account has been updated
How to Check: UMANG App
- Download the UMANG app from the Play Store or Apple App Store
- Open the app and select your preferred language
- Register using your mobile number
- Choose EPFO from the list of services
- Under Employee Centric Services, select View Passbook
- Enter your UAN number
- Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number
- Your updated passbook, including the interest entry, will display on screen
How to Check Without Internet: Missed Call or SMS
If you don’t have internet access at the moment, EPFO offers two offline options using your EPFO-registered mobile number:
- Missed call: dial 9966044425 from your registered number — you’ll receive an SMS with your latest PF balance shortly after
- Make sure the number you’re calling from matches exactly what’s registered with EPFO, or this won’t work
If the Interest Isn’t Showing Yet
- Don’t panic and don’t file a complaint immediately — EPFO has explicitly said the update is rolling out gradually across the country, not all at once
- Interest is calculated on your monthly running balance throughout the year regardless of when the passbook itself updates — the timing of your passbook update doesn’t change how much interest you’ve earned
- Check back after a few days if nothing appears on July 15 itself
- If the balance still isn’t corrected after a reasonable wait, contact EPFO through its official grievance portal or customer care
What This Interest Actually Applies To
It’s worth knowing what the 8.25% rate covers and what it doesn’t:
- Applies to your own employee contribution and the EPF portion of your employer’s contribution
- Does not apply to the pension component (EPS) of your employer’s contribution
- Interest is compounded annually, even though it’s calculated monthly
